To explain some aspects of my work as a composer, I sometimes used the expression : "Harmonize rhythms and rhythmize harmonies".

Obviously, it just a formula for expressing in a few words, something more complex. What does mean, in this context "rhythmize harmonies" ?

Here is a short example, coming from my composition "Sur 8 notes".

In this composition, I used the following eight-tones scale :

It is a rather unusual scale, without any relation to a specific tonality.
The process used here for building harmonies is similar to the one used with the major scale, where the chords  are built with leaps of 2 degrees.

In "Sur Huit Notes"  the chords are built with alternate leaps of 2 and 3  degrees. In this case, this "rhythm" ( 2/3) allows to get interesting harmonies from this eight-tones scale.

I used these harmonies, with open voicings in the left hand part of the composition
